Learners at the ASI heard from flight dispatcher and former ASI student Krystian Skrzypczk this week.
Krystian, who was part of the first cohort of students, now works in flight dispatch at East Midlands Airport while he saves to get his PPL (Private Pilot License).
During his speech to students, he described his time at ASI as well as the duties of a flight dispatcher and the experiences he has had in a busy commercial airport.
Krystian said: “I had an amazing time at ASI and my two years at East Midlands Airport really has flown by. It’s been great to speak to students today and answer their questions on what we do day to day.”
Krystian described his average day as well as some of the more unusual visitors that the airport has experienced recently such as the French Army visiting as well as the Brussels women’s footbal team.
“Being a flight dispatcher is the stepping stone to becoming a pilot,” added Krystian, “you do everything a pilot has to, but from the ground. Working among so many airlines really gives you a great insight into how an airport works.”
Krystian went on to field questions from current students as well as having a tour of the ASI, the flight simulators and the facility’s full size plane.
Head of Campus at Newark College, Penny Taylor, said: “It’s great to see returning students coming to speak to our current students. Every aspect of Krystian’s job really prepared him for life in aviation and to think that he has made his way into the industry directly after being part of the ASI really shows the pathways available to everyone here.”
