Apprenticeships provide employers with the opportunity to attract new talent, offer progression and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce which helps to improve economic productivity. An apprenticeship addresses skills gaps and provides access to practical skills.

Apprentices are your paid employees with the same rights and responsibilities as any other member of staff but whose role will include training to gain the required knowledge, skills and behaviour they need. The majority of the training is on-the-job, working with a mentor to learn job specific skills in the workplace.

But will include off-the-job training of 6 hours per week, it may be delivered in the workplace, via day release at one of the College campuses, at premises away from the working environment or may also be delivered online.

Employ an Apprentice in just seven easy steps

Employing an Apprentice with ASI, Newark is simpler than you may think. These seven steps walk you through the process, so you know what to expect when employing your Apprentice:

  • Your vacancy

    The first step is to contact our Apprenticeship Recruitment team to discuss your vacancy and requirements.

  • The apprenticeship

    Our team will ensure that your vacancy is suitable for an Apprenticeship and will suggest any revisions which might help it work more effectively.

  • Advertising

    We’ll then advertise your vacancy for fee on the Government’s “find an Apprenticeship” website, our own website and across Lincoln College’s social media platforms, whilst also matching it with any potential applicants on our database.

  • Pre-screening

    We will monitor the level of applications for your vacancy and screen applicants according to your entry criteria before forwarding them to you. You will then review the applications, select for interview and choose the Apprentice from the submitted applications.

  • Initial assessment

    Our Apprenticeship Team will make sure that your Apprentice is suitable for the training programme, through their robust initial assessment process.

  • Training needs

    We’ll work with you and your Apprentice to develop a personalised delivery plan which meets everyone’s need and expectations. The Training Plan will be regularly reviews by the Assessor over the course of the Apprenticeship.

  • Paperwork

    Your dedicated Account Manager will complete all the necessary ‘start-up’ paperwork with you and your Apprentice and follow up all of your additional training requirements. You will also decide together on a start date for your new Apprentice.

Apprenticeship Levels

Different Apprenticeship levels equate to different qualification levels. An Apprenticeship can start at any level, but some may require previous qualifications such as English or Maths GCSEs (or additional training to reach this level), or 48 or more UCAS points for Level 4 or Higher Apprenticeships.

  • Level 2

    Will achieve an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship (GCSE equivalent)

  • Level 3

    Will achieve an Advanced Level Apprenticeship 
(A Level equivalent)

  • Levels 4 to 6

    Will achieve a Higher Apprenticeship
(Foundation degree equivalent)

  • Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age to 16, there is no upper age limit as long as: the Apprentice is living in England, is eligible to work in the UK and are not currently in full time education.

Levy-paying employers manage funds in a digital account, with the government adding a 10% top-up. Non-levy paying employers co-invest, contributing 5% of training costs, with the government funding the remaining 95%. Unused levy funds can be transferred to other businesses.
