It was a weekend of awards ceremonies, showcasing and opportunity for the team at the Air & Space Institute (ASI) Newark as they took part in Pilot Careers Live.
Pilot Careers Live Heathrow gives those hoping to become pilots a chance to speak to training providers, airlines, professionals working in the industry and more.
Head of Newark Campuses, Penny Taylor, MBE, who also gave a speech at the event with Assistant Principal, Kevin Lloyd, said: “Exhibiting at Pilot Careers Live and being part of the awards has allowed us to share the ASI story and inspire others. We spoke to many contemporaries and young people embarking on their career path and seeing such excitement and interest in the room really solidified our decision to be involved.
“I also want to thank the students that attended as they represented the ASI so well and grabbed every opportunity, they could to develop their own career pathway.”
Students Daniel Wayment and Mason Nicholls also took the opportunity to network. While there many of our current students secured mock interviews and skills assessments with respected pilot training provider Leading Edge Aviation.
Leading Edge Aviation provide pilots with the opportunity to gain experience at two sites, one at London Oxford Airport and one in Alhama, Spain. The ASI students will not only get some idea of what is required in terms of skills but will also get a chance to see what the next level of interviews are like.
As well as exhibiting on the day, the ASI team also attended the awards the evening before, where the colleges carpentry and joinery students had designed and made the trophies. At the awards two of the Institute’s lecturers were nominated for awards, with Steve Buckley nominated for Best Ground School Instructor and Keith Campbell nominated for Best Sim Instructor.
Penny added: “The awards this year were a great celebration of achievement in the industry, and we are proud that two of our lecturers made the shortlist. The winners of these awards showed the true dedication to develop their skills, and we aspire at ASI to allow our students to develop their skills and own day hope to have an ASI winner”
