A new generation of aspiring aviators has officially begun their journey towards careers in aviation, engineering and the defence sector, as 72 Further Education students matriculated at a special ceremony at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) in Lincoln.
Held on Monday 21 September, the annual ceremony brought together students from the Air & Space Institute (ASI), Peterborough College and Stamford College, marking the beginning of their studies across Military & Defence Pilot and Engineering pathways.
The event was made even more significant as Lincoln College Group begins the new academic year as a Defence Technical Excellence College (DTEC) Hub, working with delivery partners across the region to strengthen technical education and create new opportunities for the future defence workforce.
Students were joined by staff, industry representatives and RAF dignitaries for the ceremony, which recognised the commitment they have made as they embark on their college journey.
Guest speaker Deputy Commandant Group Captain Steve Harrison MSc MCGI RAFR, based at RAF Cranwell, delivered an empowering message to the aspiring young aviators, sharing his experience and encouraging students to make the most of the opportunities ahead.
Adding a personal touch to the ceremony, Engineering student Luke Renfree and Pilot student Emma Maltby also contributed to the proceedings by performing a poem, providing a fitting reflection on the aspirations and journey ahead for the new cohort.
For many of the students, matriculation marks the first step towards their ambitions, whether that is progressing into professional aviation, aircraft engineering or a career within the wider defence sector.
