ASI Learners Hear Exclusive Insights From Air Experts

  • Education

It’s been a brilliant chance for learners at the Air and Space Institute in Newark to hear from industry experts this week.

Visits from Jake Watson, a Senior First Officer from Jet2 as well as from Adam Beddingham, an Air Traffic Control Assistant East Midlands Airport have given learners some real insight into both commercial airlines and the important work done at every major airport in terms of safety and security.

Jake, who has visited the ASI previously to give similar talks, gave current learners not only an insight into his daily life and what is expected of a commercial pilot on a day to day basis, but also underlined the importance of gaining experience and striving towards the academic side of study too.

Adam Beddingham’s talk covered a day in the life of an air traffic controller, as well as a look at the application process and prospects for those interested in a career in air traffic control, which learners found was varied and offered an amazing scope.

Head of Newark Campuses, Penny Taylor MBE, said: “We are very privileged at the ASI in that we get to directly hear from truly relevant and insightful speakers on a regular basis, which gives our students a sense of what they can expect from a wide variety of careers.

“Jake and Adam talked about employability skills being key and after lots of questions the students were much better informed of how to progress

“Both talks related to assessed work bring undertaken to allow students a better understanding of their subjects.”
