Circumnavigating the globe as a commissioned officer in the RAF, Keith’s experiences ranging from the Air Transport and Tanker Fleet to deploying into Afghanistan and embarking onboard HMS Illustrious with the Harrier Force, amongst a myriad operational deployments and exercises worldwide. Keith’s final posting was teaching the Air Warfare Course to the trainee RAF Officers at RAFC Cranwell – the art of educating them to make split-second decisions in the heat of battle, based on the information they had in front of them, twinned with, eventually, the years of training and experience gained before they actually had to make those life or death choice. This cemented his love of the art of teaching.
After leaving the RAF in 2012, he was the first person to be recruited onto the first Troops To Teachers course with Brighton University, undertaking (and passing) two degrees concurrently, adding to the one gained in the RAF (he has never ceased his love of learning). He initially qualified as a Primary Teacher, but fell into Special Needs teaching for the next four years. After that, he specialised in one-to-one teaching in Care Homes, working with excluded pupils, succeeding with every student he worked with in achieving their GCSEs. Drawn back to teaching with the RAF, he went back to RAFC Cranwell for three years to teach the trainee Officer Cadets again, this time in Defence Writing and Communications. He joined ASI in July 2024.
Keith has 33 years of flying experience, going solo at 17 years old, and accruing over 2,000 hours in the air. He has flown over 30 types of aircraft and helicopter. Military aircraft flown vary from the Harrier to the VC-10 to the F-16 Falcon to the Spitfire. Civilian aircraft flown vary from the Cessna 152 to the Extra 300 to gliders to paragliders.
Outside College, Keith flies anything he can get his hands on. He also runs a photography company, specialising in aviation and product photography. Star Wars and collecting original animation art are two of his other passions.
