Learners at the Air & Space Institute in Newark recently got to hear about the amazing opportunities within aerospace and aviation engineering at global airline Ryanair.
Engineering Recruitment Manager at Ryanair, Mike Bryan traveled up to Newark from the airline’s UK base at London Stansted Airport to meet with students and to deliver a speech as part of the learners’ enrichment programme.
Mike said: “It has been great to come and speak to learners at the ASI today, in the UK, there is a real sense that we are short of qualified engineers coming through. At Ryanair, we want to encourage the next generation of engineers and places like the ASI are really important places for us.
“Ryanair is set to reach more than 1,000 aircraft in the coming years, which would mean we are the largest airline in the world. To fulfil that, we really need to be investing in the engineering talent of the future.”
As well as Mike speaking to the learners, two apprentices and a Junior Aircraft Engineer also joined the day’s presentation, giving the cohort a chance to ask questions from people with boots on the ground and already training.
Mike’s presentation included letting the engineering students in attendance know the fundamental differences between careers available at Ryanair, as well as the history of Ryanair as a company and its hopes for the future.
Mike also revealed the earning potential for someone who passes a four-year apprenticeship with Ryanair, with qualified and experienced engineers currently being able to earn anything from £85,000 per year, to more than £110,000 after around 6 years of experience.
Head of Newark Campuses, Penny Taylor MBE, said: “As part of our efforts to give our learners a real taste of what they are aiming for in terms of careers, these kinds of visits are invaluable. Mike’s approach is to really spell out what engineering within the world of commercial aircraft can give you and I’m sure the students will be taking his advice to heart.”
