Level 3 Travel & Tourism students at ASI have exceeded their fundraising target after hosting a successful charity car wash in support of the Ollie Foundation, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention and mental wellbeing.
The student-led event aimed to raise funds for the charity while increasing awareness of the importance of mental health support for young people. Demonstrating outstanding teamwork and commitment, the students smashed their original target of £150, raising an impressive £263 through their GoFundMe page.
Throughout the day, students worked hard preparing, washing and waxing ASI students and staff vehicles, to support a cause that has a significant impact within communities and educational settings.
The Ollie Foundation empowers individuals and communities with the skills, confidence and understanding needed to recognise signs of distress and provide effective support to those in need. Through education and awareness, the charity works to prevent suicide and promote positive mental wellbeing among young people.
Gabriella Hoy, Travel & Tourism Lecturer at ASI, said: “We are really impressed with the turnout for the fundraiser this week. The students have worked brilliantly together to make the event happen whilst making an impact by raising important funds for a fantastic charity.”
The fundraising event formed part of the students' coursework for Unit 10: Events and Conferences. As part of the unit, students learn how events attract and manage large numbers of people, an essential aspect of the travel and tourism industry.
To complete their social action project, students were responsible for every stage of the event planning process, including brainstorming ideas, conducting risk assessments, creating contingency plans, marketing the event, delivering the fundraiser and evaluating its overall success.
The project provided students with valuable hands-on experience while enabling them to make a positive difference in the community.
