Students at the Air & Space Institute, Newark have been given the chance to step into other course mates' shoes over two days as the ASI launches Flight School.
Designed to give learners a wide breadth of experience and industry knowledge, learners at the Institute have had the chance to sample classes they wouldn't normally have access to in order to allow them to have the best chances at career progression in the future.
Head of Newark Campuses, Penny Taylor, said: "We've launched this initiative for every individual studying here. This is material that might not be on the current curriculum schedule, but are industry-related elements that they really do need to know. It's been amazing to see our current cohort learning new skills and getting hands on with some unfamiliar subject areas as well as concreting learning that has taken place this term."
Students have had emergency drill training in the on-site aircraft, have had access to flight simulators and VR and have even been given a chance to try their hand at some festive soldering, creating light-up Christmas trees and sampling some electronics and mechatronics.
The activities taking place now and in the new year will replace what the ASI has so far named 'enrichment' and will continue from next term with guidance from the Jet2 and TUI Emerging Talent teams, with the requirements that these corporate entities look out for in recruitment being followed.
