The Air and Space Institute (ASI) and Babcock International Group (Babcock), an international defense company, are thrilled to announce a strategic partnership that will bolster the educational journey of ASI students by providing practical experience and insight into working in the aviation industry.
The partnership was launched during an educational visit by ASI students to RAF Wittering, where they had the opportunity to meet with Babcock’s air traffic control team and aviation maintenance technicians to learn more about the industry.
Tom Marsden, Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer at the Lincoln College Group, said “It is fantastic to welcome such a significant defence company to the ASI family. Babcock will help support our students through their studies and offer potential routes for employment or apprenticeship training as the partnership develops.”
Chloe Barker, Managing Director of Babcock’s UK aviation business, added: “Collaboration between industry and education is so important in supporting young people entering the workplace. Our partnership with the ASI will enable us to create a path for students to explore a practical, hands-on career in aviation, while continuing their education and building on an exciting career path.”
Matt Lamb, Director of Planning and Growth at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “This is yet another exciting partnership that shows that the Air and Space Institute really is a place where ambitions and potential can be fulfilled. With a world-class training centre right in the heart of our community, the ASI is giving local students the opportunities to pursue successful careers in aviation and related industries like they’ve never had before.
“This new partnership with Babcock adds to the long list of internationally recognised partners including East Midlands Airport, Flight Director Ltd, the Royal Air Force and many others that will continue to enrich the learning experience for students, meaning they are well placed to secure jobs when they have finished their training.
“It’s great to see students now in the ASI after years of planning and construction. It’s also great to see them around the Town. This is just a start, with new courses and student cohorts starting in the future meaning the ASI will eventually be home to over 400 students.”
The partnership with Babcock adds to a distinguished roster of ASI collaborators, including East Midlands Airport, Flight Director Ltd, and the Royal Air Force. Such alliances are instrumental in improving the learning experience for students, providing them with access to cutting-edge industry knowledge and opportunities.
