This afternoon, a formal matriculation ceremony was held at the prestigious International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC), welcoming aspiring aviation and aerospace students from the Air and Space Institute (ASI) and the Air and Defence College (ADC) programme, offered in partnership with Stamford and Peterborough Colleges. This event marked the official start of their journey into the world of aviation, aerospace, and defence.

The matriculation ceremony was an opportunity for the new cohort to celebrate with their peers, faculty, and industry leaders, as well as representatives from key ASI partners, including leading defence and aerospace organisations. Through these partnerships, ASI students gain invaluable hands-on experience, industry insights, and access to cutting-edge technologies that will shape their future careers.

Speaking at the event, Mark Locking, Principal and CEO of the Lincoln College Group, emphasised the significance of the students’ choice to embark on this educational journey. "The matriculation ceremony is more than just a formal welcome; it symbolises the beginning of an adventure into a rapidly advancing field. These students are stepping into a dynamic and transformative industry, and today marks the first of many milestones in their career development."

As part of the Specialist Technical Training programmes, ASI students will benefit from a unique blend of academic study and practical training. The curriculum, tailored to meet the demands of today’s aviation and aerospace sectors, ensures that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in roles ranging from engineering and piloting to air traffic control and space technology.

For many of the students, the ceremony also offered a moment to reflect on the rich history that surrounds them at the IBCC. The centre, located in Lincoln, is home to a striking memorial spire and a comprehensive exhibition that honours the service and sacrifice of Bomber Command aircrews during World War II. This setting serves as a poignant reminder of aviation's deep roots and its ongoing importance in shaping the modern world.

In closing, the event highlighted the exciting future awaiting ASI students, with Assistant Principal at the Air & Space Institute, Ross Tarnowski adding, "Today’s matriculation is not only the beginning of your academic journey but the start of your contribution to the future of aviation and aerospace. You are entering a world where innovation is limitless, and the opportunities ahead are as vast as the skies you will one day navigate."

ASI offers programmes from Level 2 to Level 5, designed to prepare students for careers in the aviation and travel and tourism industries. Operating in partnership with industry giants like the RAF to fill job roles for pilots, engineers and ground crew in airlines, the military, airports and logistics companies in the UK and abroad.
